Andrew Porritt (AKA SugaMouth) has been obsessed with music for as long as he can remember. Initially he was influenced by his parents taste in music. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Motown, Isaac Hayes and The Beatles all found their way into his daily diet. Add to this an Uncle with a vast and eclectic collection of records thanks to his career as a DJ, and it's easy to see why he was smitten from an early age.
Although he was still happy to listen to any music that he could get his hands on Andrew felt no real connection with dance music. The poppy grooves and wailing divas that flooded the charts left him cold, and it wasn't until being coerced into attending Leeds clubnights like Up Yer Ronson, Back II Basics and Hard Times that Andrew finally understood that the real power of house music lay somewhere between the hands in the air moments and euphoric synth rushes.
Finally hearing DJs like Sasha, Derrick Carter, Miles Holloway & Elliot Eastwick, Dave Seaman and Angel Moraes play live taught Andrew that the best house music can't be condensed into 3 minute radio friendly edits and that some records can only be properly experienced whilst in a crowd of like minded people.
The years that followed were a blur of music college, learning to DJ, clubbing, producing, Ibiza, and spending pretty much every possible minute surrounded by music. Because he never managed to outgrow any of his musical interests, Andrew is just as happy listening to Marvin Gaye as he is Joe Claussel, or Justice, or Aeroplane, or Depeche Mode, or Jeff Buckley.
The SugaMouth sound is informed by all of this and plenty more. People can hear the rock influence in the distorted synths of "Vincent Black Shadow". The 80's soundtrack analog feel of "L'eclisse" and the big room house dynamic of "Hammerspace" are all products of someone who finds something else in music to fall in love with every day. To celebrate his second release, The Broken EP Cascabel Records is pleased to present… SugaMouth.

Taking his inspiration from the abrasive tones of Detroit Techno, the harsh soundscapes of Electro-Bass and the blissful contextual elements of IDM, Matt's sound is a journey through the raw components of underground dance music. Every piece lending itself to the tag of 'album track' whilst retaining that dancefloor groove.
As a DJ foremost his productions have developed around his DJ style, which has in turn morphed into a 3 deck and Laptop setup running Ableton Live. This allows for the dynamic, raw and loose grooves of 3 deck techno, whilst adding an extra dimension to the mix with a blend of loops, re-edits and live remixes from the laptop. His sound has taken him to Bulgaria, London, Plymouth, Shrewsbury, Manchester and Birmingham, playing alongside the likes of Audion (Matthew Dear), Josh Wink, John Acquaviva, James Lavelle, Thomas Schumacher, Hyper, Fergie, Alloy Mental, Chris Finke and Ade Fenton.
Matt also has two EPs released on the Cascabel Records label with more in the pipeline. His first release was the acclaimed Augmented EP and this week sees the release of The Tappeto Grande EP - a joint production with fellow producer m0dular matt. Both can be checked out on www.cascabelrecords.com
And this brings us to the podcast itself. Matt has recently started performing live sets of his own material, using a mix of software and hardware to build a bed of loops that can be jammed on the fly. This improvised style means no set will ever sound like the last; retaining maximum energy for the dancefloor and this is what you are about to experience.
Recorded live in March 2008 from Electrode in Manchester, Cascabel Records is pleased to present... Matthew T.Hinton
